Sir Austen Chamberlain. in the House of Commons, ms asked ae to the reasons for the visit to this country of M. Valdemaras, the Lithuanian Prime Minister. He replied; “After the December meeting of the Council of the League of Nations, M. Valdemaras paid visits to Berlin and Paris. At that time he informed me that he hoped to visit London in the spring, and I assured him I should be very glad to welcome him here. The only matter of business discussed between us has been the negotiation now taking place between Lithuania and Poland in pursuance of the recommendation made by the League Council. “I pressed upon M. Valdemaras the importance attached by the British Government to the success of those negotiations, and to the establishment. as desired by the League Council, of good neighbourly relations between the two Powers.”
