Australia won the toss and Morton and McNamee initiated the attack for Australia, Morton having an early success with the dismissal of Lockett, who played on to the wicket at nine, after contributing six. The batsmen were treating the bowling cautiously. Fifteen minutes later Robertson was caught behind the stumps by Richardson. —14 —2—s. The third Poverty Bay wicket fell without an addition to the score Bennett being clean bowled by Alorton —l4—3—o. At the luncheon adjournment Thomp son and Joe Scholium were still together, tho score being 25. HAWKE CUP MATCH. MANAWATU RETAINS TROPHY. Palmerston North, March 20. For the fourth day’s’ play In the Hawke Cup cricket match the weather is dull. Murchison and Reid resumed Marlborough’s second innings.. The first ball to the former was snicked to Norris. Cragg followed but when the total was 115 Reid played one back to McVicar. Cragg then fell to a great catch by O’Keefe while Baggo was beaten by Gallichan — Seven wickets for 130.
Fuller and Robinson carried on, hut the former fell to a catch while tho latter was bowled by McVicar. and Henderson batted hard to mako the necessary runs, but after several lives O’Sullivan was bowled by Mullins. Details:—
