UNDER-WATER ATTACK
TRACKLESS TORPEDOES. BRITAIN’B'EFFICIENT SUBMARINES. London, Aug. 25. The “Daily News’s” naval correspondent in support of the contention that Britain's latest submarines are the moM efficient in existence, and armed with weapons of mysterious and deadly power, draws attention to an American semi-official publication dealing withh the proceedings of the Naval Institute. The publication says that one of Britain's submarines recently fired trackless torpedoes al a target, although not allowed to rise to the surface or use the periscope 40 minutes before the discharge of Che missiles. It explains that the whole of the firing was done on listening tube data. The “Daily News” comments: “If the news is authentic it foreshadows a most important development in submarine warfare. The fact that a vessel is unable to see a submarine’s periscope or the torpedo’s tell-tale track of air bubbles enormously increases the danger of underwater attack.—(Sydney “Sun” cable.)
