SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING The School Committee meeting was held on Friday evening. Present: Messrs C. Lassen (chair), Wise, MeCormick, Vesty, Kessell, Wilson, Tate and the headmaster (Mr. Chaplin). A tentative balance-sheet of the children’s ball held recently was sub mitted, which showed that the school funds will benefit to the extent of about £4O through this effort and the committee express their thanks to all who helped towards making this event such a success, especially to the ladies’ social committee and friends who helped with the supper. The headmaster’s report showed •> roll of 627, with an average attendance of 553, which shows a slight improvement, but the attendance is still very much affected by prevailing sickness. The committee gratefully acknow ledges a donation of £2 from Dr. Wilson, given towards the unemployed fund. This amount being subsidised "’as utilised to remove some old unsightly trees on the southern boundary where flowering gums were planted last year. It was decided to commence con ereting the school lane (leading from Duke street) during the term holi. days, a portion of the profits derived from the school shop being set aside for this purpose. This sliould, undoubtedly. prove a great boon to the 300 odd children who have to use that route to com H to school. It is also the intention of the School Committee. in conjunction with the swimming club, to utilise the profits from the school baths Inst year to remodel the buildings around the bath, am to erect adequate seating accommodation to meet the increasing popularity of the baths. Accounts amounting to £24 were passed for payment.
