The final stages of the Empire scheme have all been completed in less than a year. Direct service with Canada opened last October: in April a service to and from Australia was made available, messages being directly transmitted with perfect accuracy over a space of 12.000 miles, thus becoming a part of the everyday routine in Empire communication. In July the South African service came into operation and now the centra] telegraph offices in London and Bombay are in regular communication and will in a short time, be accepting messages for transmission from the public. Newspapers here comment with keen satisfaction upon the achievement and its effect in strengthening the mutual interests and understanding of the different parts of the Empire.
