HASTINGS BOROUGH
MEETING OF COUNCIL DECISIONS ARRIVED AT. A meeting of the Hastings Borough Council was held last evening, when His Worship the Mayor (Mr. G. A Maddison) occupied the chair. Other members of the council present were ■ Crs. J Simmons, E. V. Simpson, A. 1. Rainbow. G. C. Lowe, S. J McKee. R. Baker and M. Leave of absence was granted Cr. T. Donovan. , .
An application for the permission to erect three hoardings was received from an advertising firm.—The Mayor intimated that these were renewals but he would like to see the council adopt the stand that in future ill applications for hoardings he made to the council direct. Cr. Johnson agreed with this idea and on being put to the meeting it wa 8 decided to adopt this course. Three permit' asked for were granted. On behalf of the Hastings Baptist Bible Class Mr. C. A. Sheffield wrote applying foi a tennis court situated on the Tomoana road side of Cornwall Park for the coming season.Decided to defer the matter until other applications from summer sports were at hand for consideration. ( Advice was received from Mr. F. J Tonkin that owing to the area of land offered by the council at Nelson Park not being large enough for the ladies’ requirements for croquet, they • regretted that it would be of very little use to them. They, however, thanked the council for the kind tisideration given and the trouble it had gone to in the matter.—Re ceived. Referring to an open drain, which was not fenced, running through k portion of his land. Mr W. ft Beale wrote stating that he understood jr piping of this /train was to he included in the loan proposals hut now found the work was not to be done, and therefore called on the council to fence one-half of 240 feet as its share under the Fencing Act. etc., etc.— Referred to the engineer to report to the Works Committee. A request that the footpath on Norton road be raised was received from Miss Hallam, who stated thnt she had commenced to dig a drain which wanted continuing to meet the big drain further down. The house holders on the other side, who were in the county, had mrtdo a request for the road to he metalled.and promired that it should he attended to. —Referred to the engineer to report to the Works Committee.
