CONFERENCE AT GENEVA
(Received 26, 10,5 a.m.) Geneva, Aug. 25.
At the press conference, Mr. Holtz, of the Australian Press Association, Melbourne, moved in favour of the elimination of governmental terminal charges on incoming cable messages. He pointed out that these charges dated from the time when Governments handled the messages, and they had been continued even when no services was rendered. The resolution was carried without dissent, and also Mr. Holtz’s further motion demanding that wireless press rates should be reduced in accordance with the lower cost of wireless than cable transmission.—(A. and N.Z.) PEACE-TIME CENSORSHIP. (Received 26, 12.25 p.m.) Geneva, Aug. 25. The editors and publishers of the five biggest suppressed Italian newspapers have sent a memorandum to the Press Conference characterising peace-time censorship as the greatest menace to international understnding, which is proved by the persecution of the opposition Liberal press in Italy. —(A. and N.Z.)
