N.Z. V. BEDFORDSHIRE COUNTY’# POOR START. RAIN CAUSES ABANDONMENT. (By Cable —Press Assn. — Copyright.] (Received 25, 9.10 a.m.) London, Aug. 24. The New Zealanders to-day began a match with Bedfordshire, a secondclass county and also low down on the list, The start was delayed by rain for 40 minutes. The county won the toss and decided to go in. The first pair bad put on 25 when Merritt’s overs brought on disaster. Three men went for four, and he took five in all for 55. Holdstock, the only professional in the county XI., was caught at midoff and Alston and Buckley were cleaned bowled in successive overs. Rain then came on again and held play up until luncheon, after which the ground had reached such a state that the game had to be abandoned fnr the day. Langridge, a young Sussex professional who has been doing well this summer, goes to Auckland with Bowlev at the end of tho season. Scores:— BEDFORD. First Innings.
