BORING FOR OIL
POVERTY BAY WELLS. Gisborne, Aug. 23. Taranaki Oil Fields Ltd. report that Waiapu No. 2 well is at a depth of 250 feet in grey shale, but caving in badly, and making about 50 gallons of water per hour. An 84 inches diameter casing has been sunk to 240 feet. Gisborne No. 1 well is at a depth of 430 feet in alternate beds of sand and shale. Soft grey sandstone was met from 400 feet. The well is making 100 gallons of water per hour. A 121 inches diameter casing has been sunk at 372 feet.
