Another very successful euchn party (one of a series) was held in the Borough Council Chambers on Monday night under the auspices ol the Waipawa Sports Club. There was a large number present and an enjoyable evening spent. The prizes were won by Mrs. Parker (16 out 01 18 games), and Master Raymond Cheers, ’whilst the consolation prizes were allotted to Mrs. W. I. Lini brick and Master L. Liddell. A competition was won by Mr. Frau! O’Halloran. Mrs. Pickett, MrTrevor Black and Mrs. Frank Eagt were the hostesses for the evening. Ou paying a recent visit to th. town Miss Pattrick, Director o Plunket Nursing, expressed hersel as highly pleased with the local Plun ket Home and the substantial natui of its equipment-

The billiards and snooker touraments between the Waipawa and Waipukurau Clubs for the current season were brought to a close on Thursday evening, when the third billiards match was played at Waipukurau. Waipawa had established a lead in die first and second matches, and on Thursday improved their position by winning seven games to three, thu s - retaining possession of the shield ■ Waipukurau, however, this season succeeded in winning the snooker shield, and the trophy was formally handed over at the conclusion og the play, the president of the Waipawa Club congratulating them on their victory. In view of the many other functions to be held bn the 17th of Septemlier and the earnest desire of the footballers’ benefit gymkhana executive to receive the whole-hearted support of the public, it has been decided to hold the gymkhana on an earlier date. This will now eventuate on Saturday 10th September. A committee meeting in connection with the Waipukurau Defence Rifle Club was held on Saturday night, when it was decided to proceed with repairing and renewing target frames, shed, and uprights, etc. A subcommittee was elected to deal with the trophies and drawing up of a preliminary programme. It was resulted to form a “working bee” to repair mounds, etc. Any rifleman willing to turn-out will he made welcome. A motor lorry leaves Mr A. P. Green’s at 1.30 p.m. on Saturday. The children of Waipukurau High School visited Dannevirke on Saturdav flnd played that school at basket ball and football. Miss Hales went in charge of the high school division. The children enjoyed thmselves very much and were entertained to luncheon by the Dannevirke children. Following are the results:—Basketball: Dannevirke High School A 16. Wainukurau A 8: Dannevirke High Sqjinol B 10, Waipukurau B 8.
