WIRELESS BROADCAST
DUTCH EMPIRE SERVICE. INTENDED TO REACH AUSTRALIA. (.Received 23 ,10.10 a.m.) London, Aug. 22. The Dutch Empire Service will broadcast Queen Wilhelmina’s birthday celebrations on August 31, which can be picked up in Australia. A feature will be the relaying of a Carillon recital at the old Royal Palace, Amsterdam, by the famous carillonist, Vincent. The recital will continue from 7 to 9 o’clock at night, Amsterdam time, and will include tho two Dutch National Anthems and a number of folk songs.—(Sydney “Sun” cable.) LONG DISTANCE EXPERIMENTS (Received 23, 1.5 p.m) London, Aug. 22. The broadcasting Corporation allowed Mr. Marcuse ten minutes in which to explain to listeners-in throughout tho country his experiments in broadcasting. Marcuse advised listeners-in in the dominions not to equip themselves specially with' short-wave reception apparatus as his broadeasting was purely experimental. The Broadcasting Corporation naturally sought perfection in transmission and reception before beginning its service, but they believed his experiments would result in the collection of necessary data for the inauguration of an Empire service.—(A. and N.Z.) SCHOOL LESSONS BY RADIO. Wellington. August 23. The Director of Education, in a statement to-dav. indicates with regard to wireless, that no definite arrangements have been made with the Broadcasting Companv Recention tests are to be conducted, and if satisfactory the companv will be anproached in an endeavour to nrransre a set time in the morning when lessons may be broadcasted A number of teachers in remote nlaces have notified that thev have sets and will be willing to conduct experiments.
