MAHORA SCHOOL

ANNUAL FANCY DRESS BALL A BRILLIANT PICTURE. The annual plain and fancy dress ball in connection with the Mahora School, was held in the Hastings Assembly Hall last evening with great eclat The children, with their fancy costumes, looked very pretty. The sides of the hall, as well as the platform and gallery, were packed with eager spectators, who watched the pupils parade and step out through the mazes of the grand march, so that the individual dresses could be inspected by their elders. The march moved off at 7.45, headed by F. Tonkin and Kate Lowrie, J. Peddie and Hazel McGregor. D. Curtis and Helen Feme, K, Cheer and Muriel Duff, C. Lange and Vera Duff and W Saunders and Dulcie Thody, after which the children’s dancing, interspersed with country dances, commenced, to the complete enjoyment of the youngsters, to many of whom the surroundings formed a perfect paradise. The whole presented a brilliant picture, which was watched with the greatest interest.

The Cabaret Orchestra supplied the music and Mr. T. Chaplin and the teaching staff controlled the juvenile part of the evening up to 10 o’clock, when the youngsters gave way to the adults, who, under the supervision of Messrs. Wise. Wilkie and Vesty. occupied the floor until 1 a.m. Both children and adults were regaled at the supper tables under the supervision of tne ladies’ committee.
