SUGGESTED. ABOLITION AUCKLAND DISCUSSION RESOLUTION CARRIED. (Per Press Association). Auckland, Aug. 20. An urgent meeting of the Auckland Grammar School Board discussed the reports of the intention to abolish education boards, as it is feared it may be extended to secondary school and technical school boards. The chairman. Professor Thomas, said they all were agreed that the administration of schools was being carried out more efficiently than would be the case if it were entrusted to visiting officers from a distant city. He thought the people of New Zealand bardlv realised how much the Government had fallen into the hands of its officials.

Mr. A. Burns said that the suggestion that was proposed to abolish secondarv school, boards, had been denied by what was deemed to be an inspired statement. On the motion of the chairman it was resolved “that in view of the setting up of a select committee to inquire into educational matters and uncontradicted rumours to the efiect that the Education Department proposes to abolish education hoards, secondary school boards, and technical school boards, this board communicate with the Minister of Education asking that the boards be informed of any proposed legislation and an opportunity of expThssing their views be given before any legislative proposal is placed before the House, and that a cop- of this resolution b° forwarded to the members of both Houses and also to education hoards. secondarv school (wards. and technical school boards.”
