ORGAN RECITAL.
ENJOYABLE EVENING.
In spite of the wet weather there was a fairly good attendance at the organ recital given by Miss Clark in St. Andrew’s Church Hastings, last night The evening proved to he one of keen enjoyment to those present. the varied selection in the fine programme submitted ensuring an appeal to different types of cultured taste. Perhaps the most venerallv appreciated numbers were Handel’s dainty “Minuet from Berenice.” Stephen’s “Allegretto Piacecole in A,” and Mendelssohn’s charming “Allegretto in F Major” from Sonata No. 4.
The choir rendered two anthems— Sterndale Bennett’s “God is a Spirit”’ and Sullivan’s “Hearken Unto Me,” the latter effort being particularly good. Miss Steele, L.A.8.. appeared to advantage in her solo “Father of Heaven,” from Handel's oratorio “Judas Maccabaeus,” her sympathetic interpretation oj this fine number being much appreciated. The Rev. D J. Shaw expressed the thanks of music lovers to Miss Clark and other persons of musical talent who are endeavouring to develop a truer musical appreciation in our community.
