HASTINGS WOMEN'S COMMUNTY CLUB.
A veryy pleasant afternoon was spent by the members of the Literary Circle at the Community Club on Thursday. Mrs.'Lloyd presided and in her usual inimitable fashion, welcomed Miss Beth Patterson, a member who is shortly to be married, and presented her with a fragrant posy. A paper on the life and works of Robert Louis Stevenson was read and illustrated by some of his poems and elecited from a member the fact that she had lived quite close to Stevenson's old home in Edinburgh- She described how it had been acquired by enthusiastic Stevensonians and furnished with mementoes belong to him. Mrs. Gilbertson selected Ella Wheeler Wilcox for her subject and read a most interesting paper on her life. Miss Beth Patterson entertained with Punch’s “skit” on “Vitamines A and B,” and showed pictures of small rodents which had been nourished on the different diets and their effect on the animals. Afternoon tea, dispensed by Mesdames Elphick and Webber, concluded an enjoyable afternoon.
