PROPOSED ABOLITION OF BOARDS HAWKE'S BAY RAISES OBJECTIONS REPRESENTATIONS TO BE MADE. Recently there was a lengthv report from Auckland on the matter of the proposed abolition of Education Boards and at the monthly meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Education Board this morning a telegram was received from the Auckland Education Board advising that it had circularised every member of both Houses The telegram added: ‘.‘The position is serious, and Auckland Board requests Hawke's Board to state what action it suggests qr has taken." The chairman (Mr ,1 Clark Thomson) thought that all that was required was for the Hawke’s Bav Board ,to advise the Auckland Board that the Boards’ Association would be given everv support in the matter. It was the opinion of Mr G. McKay that the matter should be taken further, He suggested that the board take independent action in support of the Auckland Board, bv getting in touch with the members of th© district or by forwarding a resolution to Wellington protesting against the aboltion of boards “We have no communication regarding the matter.” pointed out the chairman.

“It was explained that the matter had been referred to twice recently by members of Parliament. My J S. Wauchop moved that rhe following resolution be passed and circulated to the members for the district and to the Auckland Board : “That in the interests of educa-

tion. this board objected to anv suggestion that the educational board system be abolished.”

Mr McKay seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously “I would like to make a statement as a member of the Council of Education,” stated Mr J R. Kirk. “The Minister of Education has not referred to the Council of Education on the question of the proposed abolition of education boards, nor has the Council of Education at anv time considered this question.” be declared.
