SOCIAL EVENING. The first of the new series of socials was held in the school last Friday. There was a very fair attendance and a very pleasant evening was spent in cards and dancing. Miss G. Taylor won the ladies’ prize at euchre, the consolation going to Mrs B. Honi. The first gentleman was Mr J. Dawson; Mr M Eru winning the consolation.

During the evening a very successful Monte Carlo waltz was held, the winners being Mrs Little and Mr. Goldfinch. Tne competition was won by Mr Coco. The committee wish to express their thanks to all who helped to make the evening such a success and especially to the ladies who throughout the whole series have helped so loyally with the supper. The next social will be held on Tuesday, 26th inst. A meeting of the school committee was held on Friday evening last. Present: Messrs. Anderson (chairman), Caskey Barclay. Cooper, Hurekeno and the headmaster. The headmaster’s report stated that during the month the Agricultural Instructor’s report had arrived and spoke very favourably of the work in the school. Garden tools had been received from the Board and a supply of medicine from the Health Department. On July Bth the Bridge Pah ’bus was diverted to this school and the roll was now 111, but the attendance is being very seriously affected by a bad epidemic of mumps and whooping cough Miss P. S. Chambers has heen absent from duty owing to sickness. The report was adopted. It was decided to apply to the Board for a supply of new desks and for the renovation of the fence between the school and the headmaster’s residence.

Votes of thanks were passed to Mr Melson. Mrs Barclay and Mr Anderson for supplying 'rose-cuttings, shrubs, bulbs and plants to the school.

The question of the fancy dress ball was postponed for discussion at a special meeting to be held later.
