Middlesex, in the first innings against Essex, made 147 lor six wickets (Hendren in 83). This is not counted in the championship. Hampshire, in the first innings made 110 (White taking five for 37). and in the second innings made 148 (White taking five for 35) against Somerset, who in the first innings made 104 (Kennedy took six for 37 and Newman four for 61). In the second innings they made 155 for one (Young' not out 90). Somerset won bv nine wickets. Notts, in the first innings, made 420 (Whysall 119. Gunn 51. Larwood 64, Barratt 57; McDonald took five lor 119). Lancashire in the first innings, made 148 (Watson 66: S. Staples took six for 33). and in the second they made 76 for two Notts won on the first innings. For Warwick, against Sussex Kilner made 120 and Parsons 141. The match was drawn.

The Notts-Lancashire matcn had important bearing on the championshy. If Notts had won outright thev would have been almost level with Lancashire for first place.
