THE GRASS GRUB
ATTACKS SWEDES. It is not generally believed that the grass grub will affect root crons, but a representative of the Auckland “Star,” revisiting a farm where a year ago he had noticed the nest affecting the grass found the following conditions. When asked how lie had got on with the pest, the farmer pointed to a hillside paddock where a straggling swede here and there could be seeii. and said: “There’s what they have done with my swede crop.” This particular land is well farmed and the paddock hud previously been in grass, and all precautions had been taken to combat the grub. He did not think for a moment that tlio pests woud attack the root crops, but it seems only heavy liming and time will get the grub out. It takes its time to work the ground out and then fiigrates elsewhere.
