ADMIRAL JONES’ COMMENT. New York, Aug- 15. Admiral Jones, American delegate to Geneva, interviewed upon his return, said: “I do not believe any tangible result will be attained by those limitation of arms parleys. Directly the pacifists start clamouring for disarmament to prevent war, manufacturers of arms immediately begin to receive large orders and make a lot of money No Government will scrap good material in future, whether warships or guns. I Jtm>w .if one big arms factory that owes the commencement of its prosperity to the holding of the first peace conference at The Hague. “After all is said and done it must be recognised that the United States is an island empire and just as any other great centralised nation, it must depend for prosperity upon sea communication.”—(A. and N.Z.)
