STORMS IN BRITAIN.
WITH HEAVY RAINFALL. RAILWAYS INTERRUPTED IN CUMBERLAND. (Received 16, 11.45 a.m.) (British Official Wireless). Rugby, Aug. 15. Heavy storms occurred last night and continued to-day in many parts of Britain. Torrential rains fell at Barrow-in-Furness, where 2.43 inches was registered. Much damage to property was done and tram and ’bus services were delayed. In Eden Valley, Cumberland, both railway lines between Carlisle and Appelby Road are blocked owing to small landslides, and traffic to Scotland had to be diverted. The south coast resorts have been swept by heavy seas.
