BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING. The monthly meeting of the above was held on Friday. Present: Mr. H. M. Rathbone tMayor), Crs. HCollett, P. Page, L. W. Strang, G. Limbrick, W. Woods, E. E. Bott, G. Hunt and R. W. Wedde. Correspondence was dealt with as under Waipawa County Council wrote re grant of £l5 towards upkeep of Cemetery.—To be thanked. The Department of Agriculture wrotje re re-grassing football area of Coronation Park.—Reserves Committee authorised to proceed with the work. D. T. Kelly' complained about water being unable to run off his section.—Roads committee to inspect and report to next meeting. Department of Labour wrote re unemployment.—On any moneys allocated or donated specificially to relieve unemployment a subsidy of £ for £ will be given by the Government. It was resolved that application be made for a subsidy for work done at Coronation Park and a suggestion made that further improvements be taken in hand and to arrange for a loan of £250 for the purpose. Department of Internal Affairs forwarded account of £l2 10/3, being cost of the Waipawa Borough Boundaries Commission.—Account to be paid-

C. T. Wyllie asked the Council to find boundary of his section.—Council cannot undertake responsibility. Waipawa Savage Club wrote /re erecting moveable stage in concert Hall.—lt was moved that the matter be left in the hands of the Theatre Committee with power to act. An amendment was carried deleting “power to act’’ and that a report be furnished to an adjourned meeting on Tuesday. W. S. Thackeray applied for permit to remove south wall of the building in Kenilworth street lately occupied by Mrs Nash.—After a lengthy discussion, it was resolved that the applicant’s attention he called to the building by-law. which prohibits the work being done in wood and that the Council has no jurisdiction. Hawke’s Bay County Council wrote re traffic inspector.—Share, £ll, passed for payment.

OVERSEER'S REPORT. The overseer reported on the work done for the month, which included the following22o yards of metal on the Great North road. Wooden culverts on Patangata and Tamumu roads replaced by 9in. concrete pipes. At 12in. concrete pipe laid under the road opposite T. Hopkins’ residence. All path* at the cemetery have been cleaned. The roads have received attention with the grader and patching done where necessary. Extra ground on Coronation Park has been levelled and top-dressed and will be sown in the grass seed as recommended by Dr. Freeman, agriculture instructor. The cost to date is £155 36. The water hole on the side of the road at Corkscrew gully has been filled in and the sides protected by willows. All fireplugs have been cleaned and 50 tons of coal carted to the gasworks. GENERAL. On the motion of Crs. Bibby and Hunt, a list of unemployed in the town is to be made up. It was resolved to purchase another horse for borough work. The waterworks committee repoted the amount of water pumped at the works for the month as 1,750,300 gallons. Hie gas committee reported 110 tons of coal in stock. The amount of gas made for the month was 430,000 feet. The theatre caretaker, in his monthly report, complained of the unsatisfactory state in which the interior of the theatre is left by many of those who engage the building.— The report was referred to the theatre committee. The owner of the Commercial Hotel property is to be asked to repair the fence near the footpath. The owner is a property opposite the school is to be instructed to cut hack the hedge. The ranger’s attention is to be called to the stray stock on the bush roads. A report is to be submitted to the next meeting as to the cost of a 4in. main on Domain road and Waverley street. The band committee was instructed to overhaul the band instruments and report to next meeting, The waterworks committee intimated that a full report would be submitted to next meeting as to the cost of pumping water at the waterworks by gas as compared with electricity. Cr. Strang quoted an estimate of £5OO per annum for the former as compared with £284 for the lattei. The water pumped for six months at Waipawa was 11 million gallons, as compared with 9 millions at Waipukurau and the pressure 140 as against 60. The pay-sheet was passed as follows:—General £520 11/11, gas £43 18/1, waterworks £59 18/9. A notice of motion by Cr. Limbrick, “That the caretaker’s salary be reduced,’’ was dealt with. Cr. Wedde, in seconding, remarked that the health officer’s report of February last warranted serious consideration. He would add, nevertheless, that since last meeting he was quite satisfied with the condition of the theatre. After further discussion the motion was lost.
