Messrs. W. Burbidge and Son report a much improves demand for fruit (especially fancy grades), both apples and pears- Current prices:— Apples: Delicious, fancy 9/- to 12/-, spot 6/- to 8/6; Dohertys, 6/6 to 9/-; cooking, 6/6 to 8/6. Pears: Winter Coles and Nelis, 10/- to 13/-; cooking, 8/6 to 11/6— bushel cases. New laid eggs, 1/9 a doz. Pumpkins: Red 12/- to 15/- a sack. Walnuts, 8d per lb. NEW PLYMOUTH FRUIT. Messrs. Sturm, Phillips and Co., fruit and produce auctioneers. New Plymouth, report on the market as follows:—Vegetables are in good supply from local gardens. Cabbages, Savoys 10/-, Drumheads 8/-; canliowers, 14/- per sack. Cabbage off the benches, 3/- to 7/- per doz-, cauliflowers 4/- to 9/- per doz., lettuce 6/- to 10/- per crate, carrots and parsnips 5/- per sugar bag, kumeras 18/6 per cwt., pumpkins (greys) 10/- sack (short supply, possiole rise). Fruit: Stunners, test 12/, others 6/- to 10/-; Delicious, best, 14,, others 8/- to 11/-; Rome Beautys, 10/- to 12/-; Bailarats, 10/6; Washingtons ,green ex store, 10/6; Doughertys, best 10/-, others 6/- to 8/-. Pears: J oseplunes, 13/ -; Winter Nelis 14/- to 18/-; P. Barrys, 10/to 13/-. The market has firmed considerably this month for first-class fruit and all consignments are meeting with a ready sale. Retailers report a decided improvement in business, which means an increased demand a firming of prices. We would like to report that the above quotations are for Hawke's Bay apples and pears exclusively. MARKET SALE. Messrs. Gill Bros, report holding a most successful sale at their mart on Saturday last. Every pen was filled and all lots submitted were sold. Poultry, pigs, and good dairy stock sold exceptionally well, bidding being brisk throughout, and competition keen. The following are some of the prices realised: Poultry, White Leghorn hens, 3/1 to 4/-, cockerels 3/6 to 4/4; Black Orpington hens 4/- to 4/8; ducks 3/9 to 6/-, ducklings 1/to 1/4: hens and chicks £1 to £1 8/-; day old chicks 1/2 to 1/3; turkey hens 8/-, all at per each. Pigs, weaners, 18/- to 35/-, stores 30/- to 36/-, slips 30/- to £2 1/-, porkers £2 15/-, £3 5/-, sow (empty) £2 10/-. sow in pig £7 10/-, 1 do £6 15/-, 1 chopper £3 5/-. Dairy stock, 4 Jersey cows £5 7/6, 4 do £B, 1 3-teater £5 10/-, 4 at £6, 2 at £4, 2 at £9, 1 heifer calf £2 10/-, 1 at £7 5/A large lot of sundries, also fruit and produce sold at really tip-top prices.
