MOTOR ACCIDENT.

CAR OVERTURNS

FOUR OCCUPANTS HURT. (Waipawa Correspondent.) A distressing motor accident happened between Pukehou and Otane on Saturday evening to Mr and Mrs G. Joll and family, of Havelock North. It appears that the party, which also included the two Misses MacDonald, of Spring Hill, Onga Onga, were travelling in a 7-seater car for the purpose of conveying the latter ladies home after having spent a holiday at Havelock, and on approaching the small bridge over the Silver stream near the round hill one of the wheels got into a pot-hole causing the car to swerve, and before it could be properly righted the bridge was reached, which it took on two wheels and after crossing the bridge the car overturned. The crash was heard by Mrs Cooper, a resident in the vicinity, who, with other helpers, righted the car. It was found that Mrs Joll, who was pinned under the car, was severely injured, two of the children were cut about the face and head and one of the grown-up lads complained of pains in the back. The other occupants, which included Mr Joll. a grown-up son who was driving, and another son and also the two young ladies, were thrown clear and escaped injuries. Dr South, of Waipawa, was immediately telephoned for and on nis arrival he ordered those injured to be removed to the District Hospital at Waipukurau by ambulance. The bridge in question, which crosses a small stream, is a verynarrow one and besides being only partially protected by rails the ap. proach from the northern end is partially hidden by willows.

On making enquiries this afternoon Mr Joll advised that the injuries to Mrs Joll were not so bad as anticipated and that Mr Leonard Joll had sustained two broken ribs.
