BILLIARDS.
AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP. FURTHER GAMES PLAYED. Wellington, Aug. 14. E- J. Morrisop (Auckland) had a hard row to hoe when he met A. Freeman (Wellington) in the amateur billiards championship on Saturday at the Federal Club, Wellington. Freeman, purely a stroke player, had all the running and luck, and missed little. Morrison struggled against the adversity, made up the arrears and went neck and neck till near 500. Freeman left the balls safe. Morrison, instead of being cautious, played risky shots such as long screw losers almost on the cushion, leaving good positions from which Freeman scored freely and in the last stage put on 180, while Morrison scored 40. /
Freeman’s average was 8.8, and his best breaks: 30, 42, 27, 41, 25 and 61. Morrison’s best were: 41, 27. 34, 29, '3O, 33, 30.
In the evening Tucker (Federal) met Fowke, a young Wellington player with a nice touch and real skid, but, though lacking experience, will do well. Tucker, a seasoned championship player, won easily, the scores being: Tucker 666. Fowke 376.
Warren and Roberts each three times champion, play on Monday night.
