AUSTRALIAN STEEPLES.
ROISEL WINS. Melbourne, Aug. 14. The weather was fine and the going excellent for the Australian Steeples, which resulted :—Roisel (12.9) 1, Clan Robert (12.11) 2. Bellanius (9.7) 3. Twelve started. Mount Cooper did the early running. Nyamgay, the favourite, then took charge and entered the straight the second time round well in front of the field, but came to grief at the next fence. Unohoo also fell, bringing down Glentronie and Perpetual. Mount Cooper and Clan Robert carried on the running, followed jy Roisel and Bellanius. Clan Robert assumed the lead at the half mile from Roisel, and these two came into the straight on level terms and fought out a great finish, Roisel winning hy three-quarters of a length. Time, 6.59 J. Balaclava Stakes.—St. Lazar (6.7) 1, Valwyne (8.12) 2, Sailing Home '8.10) 3. Eleven started. A great finish. Won by a head. Time, 2.20. MOOREFIELD RESULTS. Sydney, Aug. 14. For the Moorefield races, the weather was fine and the going good. Three-year-old Handicap.—Merry Mint (8.3) 1. Flinders (8.7) 2, Thessilian (7.10) 3. Nine started The winner went to the front early and was never headed. Won by two lengths. Time, 1.44. Flying Handicap.—Lady Thurza (8.2) 1. Royal Blood (7.4) 2. Cadenza (8.1) 3. Twelve started. Won by a length. Time. 1.15.
