Lord Galway, chairman of the “Biir Brothers,,” has written to Sir John Higgins appealing to the shareholders of “Bawra” for a donation of 10/- per cent., which would total £175,000. for helping to send to Australia, firstly ex-servicemen’s children. and secondly potential farming settlers.
zThe letter points out that “Bawra”’ shareholders received £200.000.000, of which £35,000,00 represent surpluses above war prices of wool and there is another £7,500,000 distributable. It points out that New Zealand woolgrowers donated £210.000 of their war profits for the benefit of the children of mercantile marine sufferers, and similar contributions from “Bawra” would exceed £4,000.000.—(A. and N.Z.)
