A PRESENTATION.

A number of the friends of Mrs Barnsdale, who with her Husband is shortly moving to Gisborne, met on Friday afternoon in Mrs. J. A. Miller's house, winch was lent lor the occasion.

Mrs. Barnsdale during her few years’ residence in Hastings has formed a large circle of friends, who took this opportunity of uniting to say ''goodbye” ’ to her as the guest oi the occasion.

During the afternoon Mrs J. A. Miller, on behalf of everyone present, handed Mrs. Barnsdale a large goldframed picture of an Eastern subject beautifully portrayed in soft colouring, a suitable inscription being embossed on a small tablet attached. Mrs Miller in a very telling little speech, spoke of the great hospiu: and unfailing kindness shown by Mi’s Barnsdale to all with whom she was acquainted, not only when they were well, but when they were ill- All present, she said, wished Mis Barnsdale a happy life in Gisborne, and all wished that some day she might again come back to live in Hastings. In replying, the guest of honour said that no presentation was needed to help her to remember all the friends she was leaving behind her, for any little act of kindness she might have done was given out of true affection and therefore became her pleasure. All her Hastings friends were assured of a welcome as soon as a definite home was settled on in Gisborne..

After similingly receiving the picture, which was signed at the back by each person present, Mrs Barnsdale again thanked all for the beautiful gift. The afternoon was happily spent in competitions, the first resulting in Mrs 'Tonkin and Miss Evans tying for first place. After a draw Mrs Tonkin received the pretty prize. Another amusing competition, which drew an amused queue about the house on a treasure hunt, to the strains of the gramophone, resulted in a win for Mrs. Clark. There were impromptu musical items given by Mrs Budd, Mrs Foster. Mrs Miller, Mrs Roach, and Mrs Hursthouse, which pleasantly beguiled the time after tea. The organisers of the farewell, Mrs. O’Meara and Mrs Stratton were kept busy superintending the delicious tea, and seeing to the enjoyment of the assembled guests. Those present included Mrs. Stratton, Mrs O'Meara, Mrs Rowe, Mrs. Hogg. Mrs Hull, Mrs Jackson, MrsCarlton, Mrs Shepherd, Mrs Uren, Mrs Cunningham, Mrs F. von Dadelszen, Miss Evans, Mrs McCaw, Mrs D. Heaton, Mrs Roach, Mrs Davies, Mrs Dinwiddie, Mrs Budd. Mrs Tonkin, Mrs Foster, Mrs O’Dowd, Mrs Mrs Wedd.
