WAY TO BEAUTY, GRACE AND SLIMNESS.

The fourth of the series of physical exercies arranged by Dr. Harold Dearden, for the “Sunday Express,” appears below. These exercises are designed to increase the will power, and by their proper performance to give ease, grace and accuracy of movement. EXERCISE 4. HIGH-STEPPING TO THE SIDE. Stand erect, as in first position of previous exercise, holding bell in right hand and supported by left hand upon chair. Mace bell at a distance of an easy stride sideways to the right. Bend right knee and place right toe on inside of left knee. Raise right leg to side as high as possible, knee straight, toe pointed, turning the leg at the hip joint so that the outside ot the leg and ankle looks upwards; and raising on the ball of the left foot at the same time. When the right toe is at its highest point, sink down on the left knee as low as possible and strike the bell smartly with the inside of the right pointed toe. Recoil from the bell smartly, lifting right leg as high as possible and lifting the whole weight of the body on the ball of the left foot, so as to resume original position. Repeat till tired, and with the left foot also. Note.—The body must be kept erect and not bent sideways when sinking down, and the hips kept facing squarely forwards. The movement must be a flowing one throughout.
