IMPROVING A HIGHWAY.
STORTFORD LODGE CORNER. SCHEME AGREED ON. Recently a conference was called to consider the matter of splaying back a corner in Stortford Lodge and the H.B. Electric Power Board was authorised to make suggestions as to the acquisition of the land and the cost thereof. The Works Committee reported to the Hastings Borough Council last evening that the Board hqd written suggesting that the cost of acquiring the land tor the purpose of splaying back the corner to improve the road crossing be borne in the following proportions: Hastings Borojigh Council one-quarter, H.B. County Council one-quarter, Highways District onehalf. The cost of the land had not been fixed between the vendors and the Board, and was being taken under the Public Works Act.. The Works Committee recommend that the Council inform the Power Board that it was favourable to the scheme and was quite prepared to contribute what would be a fair proportion of the amount immediately they advised the Council of the price and allocation when the purchase of the land was completed. “All parties have agreed to the proportion,” commented the Mayor, “and I have no doubt but what the work will be commenced shortly. It will make a big difference and improve this highway.’’
