TARADALE TOWN BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Taradale Town Board was held last night. Present: Messrs H. W. Whitton (chairman), J. Ellis, C. H. Williams, F O. Anderson, G. Brown and W H, C. Howard. In connection with the allocation uf the heavy traffic license fees which total £lOO 0/7 the Town Clerk, Napier, advised that a cheque of £66 13/4, being the council's proportion - two-thirds of one per cent, of the above total—had been forwarded to the Hawke’s Bay County Council, who had to contribute to the board the remaining one-third per cent. - Received. The Town Clerk, Napier, advised that the board’s letter regarding the Napier-Taradale motor omnibus service had beqjj referred, to the Roads Committee for consideration and report to the council.—Received. The Rev. F. L. Frost, chairman of the trustees for the Anglican section of the Taradale cemetery, advised that the board's letter regarding the proposal to assume control of the cemetery, had been forwarded to the Waiapu Board of Diocesan Trustees, am] they would forward their reply in due course. Mr. P. P. Neagle, one of the trustees for the Roman Catholic section, advised that in connection with the above matter he would discuss it with his cn-trustee and advise the board as to the decision arrived at.—Received. The clerk Hawke’s Bay County Council advised that the question of street lighting in Greenmeadows was before the council at its meeting last Monday and the council would be pleased to consider the board’s request when bringing forward its report on the question, OVERSEER’S REPORT. The clerk and overseer (Mr. W. G. Jaris) reported that all the loads were now in good order and should require but little attention for some time. In connection with the relief works 16 chains of concrete channelling and necessary crossings along Lees road had been completed at a cost of £lO per chain. This had made inroads on the funds in hand and unless the proposed loan were assured at an early date, operations would have to cease. An amount of £l3 6/6 had been received from the Greenmeadows fruit farm, having been subscribed to by Mrs A. M. Randall and her employers. In connection with tree-planting, the gaps were being filled where vandal had pulled up and destroyed the previous plantings. Further planting would take place on both sides of Church road «from the Anglican Church to the bridge. The- clerk reported the board’s various accounts were as under:— Workers’ loan account, cr. £2.515 1/10; special loan, cr. £lB7 11/4; electricity account, cr. £7?l 17/6; general account, dr. £383 18/4.
