ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

(Per Press Association). The body of John O ’Kane, aged 58, was found in the Welling Harbour near Clyde Quay baths, just after 8 o’clock yesterday morning. He was missed on Wednesday evening. « Caught between two trams on the Riccarton road at dusk last evening, a motor ear driven by a man named Meehan was badly battered, and the driver was taken to hospital unconscious suffering from a nasty wound in the head and concussion. The scene of the accident was at the bend in the road near Hagley Park cricket grounds. Meehan, accompanied by a passenger, was proceeding from the racecourse to the city when he tried to pass an inward bound tram on the bend. Evidently he did not see an outward bound tram approaching immediately in front, and as they passed the car was caught in between the two trams. On being extricated it reesmbled a concertina, being crushed from both sides.

Admitted to the Christchurch Hospital at 12.15 yesterday morning, suffering from a bullet wound through the lungs, Raymond Leslie Duncan, aged 21, died in the institution at 9.30 last night. The wound was caused by a .22 calibre rifle. The man went to the pictures on Wednesday night, and on returning had supper and went to the garage at the back of his residence. A few minutes later his mother heard him at the back door, and when she opened it her son fell inside.
