Slip on Hutt Road
Whole Hill on the Creep. TOO DANGEROUS TO WORK AT. TRAFFIC MAY BE HELD UP (Per Press Association.) Wellington, August 12. Ten thousand tons of rotten rock almost completely blocked the Hutt road this morning, traffic having to pass the edge of the moving debris. More than one car has been struck by rolling stones, and long queues are occasionally necessary when the hillside becomes lively. lire whole hill is on the creep 'list on the city side of Ngahauranga. and it is anticipated that there is four times as much to coin 6 down as there now is on the road. The actual slip measures 100 yards across, but is spread over a much wider space of road. When all the loose area is down, the slip will extend well out into the railway line, and it does not seem possible to prevent this happening or to keep the road open for traffic. The slip is tar too dangerous to permit of anyone attempting to work on it, and it can he passed now onlv at great risk. It is unlikely that motors or ’buses will be able to continue past the spot much longer.
