HOSPITAL AFFAIRS.

WAIPAWA BOARD. GENERAL BUSINESS. (Own Correspondent). The ordinary monthly meeting ot the Waipawa hospital Board was held in Waipukurau yesterday. Present: Messrs. L. M. Monckton (acting-chairman), J. A. Kerr, F. J. Witherow, H. W. White, N. G- Hawthorn, R. A. Fraser, and P. Hunter, Sister F. K. Anderson, and Mr P. R. Smyrk (secretary). Mr 11. M. Rathbone was granted leave of absence. Mr. Witherow Complimented the secretary (Mr Symrk) on the manner in which he had set out the agenda paper.

Correspondence was dealt with as under;—

Director-General ol Health approved of the completion of the top floor of the Administration Block, and requested the holding of the acceptance of price, [lending the visit of Mr. Allen on August Bth.—Deferred to discussion in committee.

Hospital Boards’ Association forwarded a copy of a letter forwarded to the Prime Minister, with reference to the hospital fees ot industrial accident cases; also with reference to the fees for hospital treatment and relie fof Maoris.—Supported Director-General of Health forwarded a circular letter in connection with the procedure to be adopted in the event ol hospital boards applying tor loans lor capital purposes.- -Keceivd. Manager, Bank ot N.Z., intimated that the Board’s application for a £lO,OOO loan has been approved, und that the Head Office solicitors were preparing the necessary documents. In this letter the bank agreed to the printing ot the debentures as bearing a rate of 6 per cent.—The acting-chainnan explained that the Finance Committee had gone into the matter, and had agreed to the rate.

Auditor-General forwarded a certificate copy of the Board’s accounts for the year ended 31/3 27.

Dannevirke Friendly Societies Council asked if the Board would he prepared to admit cases from the Danne-

virke district, under the same conditions as members of local tnendly societies.—Not agreed to-Director-General of Health agreed to the Board s agreement with local friendly societies lor the current year, but intimating that it is expected that the Board will go fully into the matter before next term, with a view to making an arrangement which would not involve a greater confession than 50 per cent.— Received. Director-General of Health wrote re the Board’s approval of Messrs. A. and T. Burt’s price of £3O tor a steam calorifier, and giving cost of fitting and connecting at approximately £2s.—Price accepted, subject to Department's approval. Waiapu Diocesan Board requested the writing-off of tees due on account of childrun admitted to hospital from the Abbotsford and St. Hilda’s Hpmes.—The acting-chairman said the Board was prepared to support its own children, but did not see its way to support children from outside areas. It was finally decided to get of the children in the homes, the whole matter to be considered at the a list of the residential qualifications next meeting. NOTICE OF MOTION. In accordance witli notice given, Mr. Hawthorn moved:— (a) "That the minute recorded on July Bth, 1925, formulating the scale of district nursing fees, be rescinded(b) “That the minute recorded on June Bth, 1927, dealing with the apportionment of district nursing suoscriptions and charges and further mutters in this direction, be rescinded. (c) “That the whole question of district nursing at Porangahau be revised.” This matter was taken in committee, and it was decided to adopt a uniform scale of charges as laid down by the Department of Health. GENERAL MATTERS. Tlie secretary was authorised to arrange lor tho purchase of storm-cur-tains for the men’s surgical ward. Mr. Witlierow moved that the petty cash account be done away with, and an imprest account be opened to the extent ot £25, same to be operated by the secretary and one member ot the Finance Committee.—Carried.

The secretary was authorised to get prices lor chairs and linoleum for tne new block, and report at the next meeting ot the Board. Messrs. Kerr uuu Witherow were appointed a visiting committee tor tirn ensuing month. The Racing Club was granted the use of the ambulance, on the usual charge ol £3 a/- per day. The Clerk of the Borough Council wrote, asking tor a gram towards the upkeep ol tlie Dental Clinic, and it was decided, to tiold the matter over till next meeting. The clerk ol works (Mr Spackinan) and the, secretary were authorised to sort out tlie old timbers at the hospital, and arrange tor tho general cleuu-up at the entrance ot the Administration Block-
