Seven days’ imprisonment was meted out by Mr, vVyvem Wilson, S.M., yesterday at Hamilton, to Robert Samuel iVlidgley, charged with assaulting his wife. The police stated they were called up at 10 p.m. by neighbours, and they warned the accused. They were later summoned at midnight, when they found accused had been cruelly treating his wife, who was bleeding from the face. The magistrate commented scathingly on Midgleys cowardly conudet. At the Supreme Court in New Plymouth, Norman Oliver Andrews, for breaking and entering motor garage premises at Opunake with intent to commit a crime, was sentenced to two years’ reformative treatment. Sums of money had been disappearing from the garage office for some time and a trap laid by the police only succeeded after a nightly watch had been kept for a long time.
