CORNWALL PARK.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —The people of Hastings do not appreciate to the full extent the splendid asset they possess in the ownership of Cornwall Park. This beautiful lung space, so tastefully laid out and well cared for, would do credit to an important city. After an absence of several years a visitor to the park is at once struck with the vast number of permanent and substantial improvements which have been added, also the well-arranged lay-out of the sports and amusement grounds. These are placed in such convenient positions as to be under the immediate supervision of the curator, Mr W. W. Adams. Owing to the throng of juveniles who daily patronise the swings, shoots, etc., it is necessary for the curator to be always more or less in the neighbourhood of the amusement ground to keep control of the small fry. This entails considerable tact at times. One of the most important improvements which will be appreciated by visitors to the park is the transformation of the “ditch" into a pretty serpentine stream, with a miniature island in the centre. The banks will be faced with rubble and have a gradual slope. The water in the stream will be raised, and controlled bv means of a gate, which at intervals will be used for flushing the stream. It will also provide a uniform depth of water for the swans and wild fowl to swim in. The paths bordering the stream are increased in width and bordered with limestone. The whole will have a very pretty effect when completed. Mr. Adams deserves every credit for the various improvements which he has planned and skillfully carried out, which tends to make Cornwall Park not only a credit to Hastings, but a show place for the district.—l am, etc., A.B.G. Hastings, Aug. 8, 1927.
