IN BATTERED CONDITION.
IxHIP TOWED TO SYDNEY. SUCCESSION OF GALES. (Received 9, 1.20 p.m.) Sydney, Aug. 9. An American lumber-laden ship, Tonawanda, 108 days out and bound from Willapa Harbour to Melbourne, was towed into Sydney in a battered condition and short of provisions. The vessel encountered the succession of gales which have recently prevailed in the Pacific and for the last three weeks the crew had nothing to eat but a short allowance of tinned beans.
