MEN WHO DO THINGS.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —1 ask the indulgence of vour courtesy for one more letter (and the ast), under the nom de plume of “Pro Bono Publico,’' translated bv Mr Beamish. He opens his letter by referring to the spring and the “blowfly”—they are pretty thick *or this time of year, early spring. He hopes we will be doing our best to help, and to tolerate, the weakness of each other. Great Scott I What patience a man would want, and what a banking account! As Mr Beamish takes me in the order of precedence. 1 thank him. As for a sarcastic vein. I only replied as ne w’rote; and as to referring to idle street corner gossip, he is as far from the truth as he is from Heaven—ano I hope that’s a long way off I’m not concerned about “Tim.’’ It’s no business of mine whether Mr Beamish is a friend of his or not. 1 only mentioned him as a man “who does things.” As to the man who was going to build the skyscrapers on the Carlton Hotel site. I was with him. lam for construction, not destruction. Sir. you m&v not believe me. but such rhetoric is beyond me. I never heard such word painting in mv life. lam not so well educated as Mr Beamish; I was not born with a silver spoon in mv mouth. I have lived in Hastings nearly as long as Mr Beamish • I do not stand at street corners, nor do I travel round, as a great many men are doing now. through want of employment. canvassing from door co door with a small suit-case.
