METHODIST CHURCH.

QUARTERLY MEETING

The quarterly meeting of the Hastings Methodist Church was held in the Wesley Hall on Tuesday evening last when there was a good attendance of church officers. The Revd, F. Copeland occupied the chair. The quarterly report and balancesheet which were presented by Mr. J. B. Picking showed a slight credit balance. The various departments of the church’s activities in their reports gave convincing evidence of steady effectual and efficient work. During the quarter the Rev. W. Ready had conducted a mission, which had been acceptable in its delivery, and the effects were being felt in every branch of the church’s life. The “Outlook” report showed an increase of seven subscribers, bringing the total up to thirty-nine. Next month being the 21st anniversary of the Methodist Young Men’s Institute it was decided to hold special services, an invitation being accorded all foundation members to take part. A vote of sympathy was expressed with Mrs AlcLellan and Air. Cowlishaw in their continued illness. The following resolution was passed unanimously: “That this meeting, representing the Methodist people of this district, protests against the introduction into Parn'aruvnt by Sir George Hunter of the Gaming Amendment Bill, which will provide greater facilities for gambling. A copy of the resolution is to be forwarded to the member for the district and the Prime Minister.
