IMPORTER’S COMPLAINT.

LIGHTERAGE CHARGES COMMITTEE TO INVESTIGATE. The Tourist Motor Co.. Ltd., Hastings, forwarded to yesterday's meeting of the Napier Harbour Board a copy of a letter received from a firm in New York in which it was stated that in accordance with standing instructions they tried to arrange a shipment of goods to H 3 anchorage only, but the steamship company informed them that this was no longer a port and the very best they could do was to give a bill of lading for Napier Mr. Higgins considered that this was a matter that should be thoroughly gone into. He pointed out that on cargo landed at the Breakwater no lighterage was charged, but the freight remained the same as I hat lightered from the roadstead. This was placing the port at a disadvantage with the main ports. He suggested that the board’s officials should prepare a statement on the matter for the Commission.

Mr .lull agreed that the matter was one for consideration by the Commission.

Mr. P. SV. Peters said that the importer was in the hands of 'the exporter, who went his own sweet way.
