PROTECTED BY ARMED GUARD
TREASURES OF NOTRE DAME Paris, Aug. 22. Armed guards are protecting the princeless treasures in the Notre Dame, including gold, silver and diamond studded altar vessels, fearing a gang of international thieves will attempt to steal them. The gang is reported to include two Italians, at first suspected as revolutionaries aiming at the theft to obtain funds to finance a plot to assassinate Mussolini. The treasures are stored at night in a strong room, and electric burglar alarms are attached to the Cathedral doors.—(A. and N.Z.)
