The Kitchener Articles EXPLANATION BY ‘.‘REFEREE.” ONE POSITIVE RESULT. [By. Cable—Press Assn.-Copyrlght-I (Rceived 23, 9.55 a.m.)’ London, Aug. 22. The “Referee,” which published Mr Power’s Kitchener articles, in a leader, says: “The rumours and isuspicions regarding Lord Kitchener’s death had been increased because successive Governments refused to disperse them by a plain statement of the truth. Mr Power offered to undertake, on his own responsibility and at his own charges, an investigation, of Kitchener’s death. Tho “Referee,” paying ordinary journalistic rates for articles. Remuneration for tho most startling would not have covered tho return fare to Norway.
We still think the best course was to allow Mr Power to state "his case, which has.resulted in drawing from the Admiralty a statement which should have been issued a decade ago. Mr Power must now prove, if he can, the statements that he found what lie believed to be Kitchener's remains which were inclosed in a coffin and convoyed to Englund.” The “Referee” adds that is does not credit the suggestion that the authorities vere privy to the alleged AbmrjstFde substitution. — (Sydney “SfljF cable).
