ODDFELLOWS' LODGE
MANCHESTER UNITY. The quarterly meeting of the Loyal Hastings Lodge of Manchester Unity Oddfellows was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Market street. Hastings, on Thursday last, P.G. Bro. A. R. Farmer, presiding. A vote of condolence was passed to Mr. and Mrs. G. A, Maddison, Mayor and Mayoress of Hastings, in the loss of their son last week. A letter was received from the district secretary, Bro. J. P. Williamson, notifying the lodge that their application for permission to open a Juvenile Lodge had been granted and that the proposed rules were approved. The society officers expressed the bes iwishes for a successful opening and prosperity for the new lodge. Sister P. Williamson, V.G. of the Loyal Gisborne Lodge, was received with honours. A clearance certificate was granted to Sister A. Graham, now of Auckland, and a letter of recommendation to Bro. C. 1). Cunnold, wh is returning to Awarua wireless staiton. An abstract from the returns submitted to the recent conference of the Manchester Unity at Torquay, England, was presented by the financial secretary which showed the affairs of the society to be in a satisfactory position. The gross membership in the Empire at the end of 1925 was 1,521.928, an increase durin gthe year of 19,676. The financial statement shows an aggregate capital of £22,191,698 at 31st. December, 1921, the benefits paid out durin gthat year being £1,601,817. The annual income from contributions amounted io £1,088,385 whilst the interest on invested funds yielded £927.358. Accounts for £340 were passed for payment. Ten pounds were voted towards the children’s annual Christmas party, and £5 to the Loyal Takapau Lodge.
