HAVELOCK NORTH TOWN BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the.Havelock' North town Board was held last evening. Present: jur. J. Phillips (chairman). Messrs. J. H. J oil, W. A. G. remington, S. Graham, J. Nimon and l. A. cooper. Air. Seiton was granted leave oi absence. Correspondence was dealt with as follows:— . lire inspector of Health, Napier, reported that the Havelock Nortn xuwn Board has been free from infectious disease during the past montli. An inspection xoi the plumbing work under progress has been inaue anu »nuii cuuipieted a final inspection will be made and a clearance certificate issued.—Received. llie Havelock North Fire Brigade drew attention to the need of cleaning out the lire plugs, also putting a lamp on the firebell and near the fire station.—-ihe inspector, stated the plugs re examined once a year, >and it was hardly six months ago when the plugs were cleaned out. Alter discussion the matter was left in the hands of the inspector t© attend to. The inspector reported that the brigade did no! notify him when using the fire plugs last week for watering the Domain.—The chairman said the inspector must be notified at once, as the inspector had to notify the authorities at the Hastings pumping station, who would have to put another pump m. The reservoir only held a day s supply of water.—Mr. Joll moved that the five Brigade be asked to suspend the wet practice during the dry season. —Mr. Nimon said the bowling green was allowed to use the water, and he thought the Fire Brigade came first.— r. Joll said he would go further if necessary and move a motion to suspend the watering of the gardens. If the Town Board were short of water then stop the water to the bowling green.—Air. Penlington thought the brigade were doing their duty in calling attention to filled-up plugs.—Air. S. Graham said he would move that the Fire Brigade give the inspector notice before 5 p.m. before having a wet practice, and that the fire plugs be cleaned out every three months.—This was carried unanimously. About the lamp asked for by the brigade, the chairman said there was a light on the opposite side of the road and this should be sufficient for access to the firebell. The inspector to attend to the putting a lamp near the fire station.

Mr. MacDonald drew attention to the need of a street lamp at the corner near his store, on the Te Alata road, where a postal box is placed.—Air. Nimon proposed and Air. S. Graham seconded, and the matter brought up a discussion, the latter stating that he would like to see a few more lamps placed in the village.—The chairman stated that the question of the cost controlled the lighting.—The resolution was carried.

Air. S. Cowley wrote asking the board to request a resident to remove the hay stack in the paddock adjoining his residence as it is dangerous in case of fire.—Air. Cowley to be informed the resident was complying with the bs’-law as to the distance the stack I was placed away from the house. I From the Hawke's Bay County clerk I intimating a conference of local bodies I withing the Heavy Traffic District No. 6 will be held on Wednesday, April 21. i at 2 p.m. .at the Napier Borough Council Chambers, the business being the disposal of license fees under the regulations as to the use of motor lorries The clerk was appointed to represent the Town Board. The Napier Harbour Board intimated that the Town Board’s share in the Harbour Board levy for the current year is £lO3 3/4, being 19-100ths of a penny in the £ on the unimproved value of £130,316. —The clerk explained this was about £27 more than last year.—received. Alessrs. I. Crichton and Son wrote on behalf of a client re wastage of water, and informed the board that the trouble would not recur again, as personal aiiention would be given to prevent wastage in the future.—To be informed that the by-law must be carried ! out and a regulating trough pvt in. The inspector suggested that the footpath between the Post Office and the bridge on the Hastings road bo limestoned and the hedges cut back.— This was agreed to. The following accounts were passed for payment.—General accounts £965 3/11. cemetery account £lB 7/-.
