Islam’s Aspirations MOSLEM WOELD UNITY SCHEME. KHALIFATE THE NUCLEUS. [By Cable— Press Association— Copyright.) (Received 30, 8.55 a.in.) London, Mar. 29. The “Daily News” states that a new movement born of the recent Islamic political and intellectual unrest aims at nothing less than establishing a Moslem League of Nations. Th e recognised Khalifate forms part of this ideal. The League’s president would be the titular Klialif. A Cairo correspondent says that unity is liklely to be achieved in tho Khalifate, which has been radically reformed in accordance with modern ideas, when the Islamic Congress meets in Cairo on May I.—(Sydney “Sun” cable). In connection with above cable it interesting to remember the message received yesterday announcing the proclamation of a new Moslem Messiah. Unifying influences have been stirring the Mohammedan world for about two decades, and these seem on the point of resulting in a definite world organisation, whether a “Moslem League of Nations” as in the text of above cable, or a League of Moslem Nations, under the leadership of the Khalif and inspired by the new prophet Aga Khan. The development is significant and fraught with inestimable political and religious possibilities.
