Mr. AVilliam Ollernshaw, an English expert pigeon breeder, who has been residing in Hastings for the nasi eighteen months, for the sake of his health, left this morning for Blackpool, England, via Sydney. A cable received from Miss Betty Lewis, the young Hastings singer, who is studying under Air. and Alps. Roland Foster at the Sydney State Conservatopium, states that she was gpanted a special audition yesterday by Dame Clara Butt, who was very iavourably impressed, and predicted that Aliss Lewis will go far in hep profession. Colonel C. Knott, the new chief secretary lor the Salvation Army in Nou Zealand .arrived by tho Aorangi, ac compamed by Airs, Knott. AL I)., late Brigadier- Al a jor Medical Department, aged 91. The late Dr. Bennett, who was a native oi 'lipperary, Ireland, came to New Zealand with the 14th. Regiment, and served through tho Maori War. After returning to England he proceeded with his regiment to India, and went through the Afghan campaign, attaining the rank of brigade-surgeon. During recent years he resided at Seatoun. Tho Into Dr. Bennett leaves two sons and three daughters—Messrs. R. E. Bennett (AVellington). T. E. Bennett (Queensland). Mrs. A. D. ('rawford (Wellington). Airs. Toswill (Hastings). and Aliss Bennett (Seatoun). Tho interment will take place at Bulls to-morrow.
