When the steamer Garthcastle, bound for Capetown, was approaching the anchorage at Ascension Island, she struck a rock heavily. As there are no facilities lor repairs within 2000 miles, the vessel, with 418 passengers and crew, will have to wait until a relief steamer arrives from London.
