AN UNPROMISING BOY.
At the Hastings Court House, yesterday afternoon, a boy, aged 15L who had been boarded out from the Wcruroa Training Farm, appeared before Messrs. R. B. Holmes and H. A. Alossman, J.’sP., charged with, on March 21st., the theft of eight ties, a hat, a handerchief, a scarf and 5s in cash, from the residence of Air. G. R. King, at Tonioana. Sergeant Hogan pointed out that accused, who had been boarded out for 18 months, had entered at one ol Air. King’s windows and taken the articles mentioned. 'Hie probation officer (Air. Young) said the boy was audacious and untruthful. and had not fulfilled expectations, after he had been sent out from the farm. His employer, a lai mer, had treated him very kindly and this was Che return he got. Air. G. R. King, the owner of the stolen property, said he thought the ooy was only animated by a spirit of mischief and boyish vanity. He only stola the clothes, when there were many valuable things he might have taken. After consultation, their Worships, alter severely cautioning the lad, convicted and discharged him.
