BE A RAT-CATCHER!
IT’S WORTH £6OO A YEAR. Brisbane, Dee. 16. A Chief Rat Catcher was appointed by the Brisbane City Council, yesterday, at a salary of £6OO a year. And yet it was only earlier in the day that the Ministers for Education, addressing the Teachers’ Conference, complained of the manner in which parents were ignoring opportunities offering for the higher education of their boys and girls! It is pointed out that not a dozen of the highest qualified teachers in tho Education Department draw £6OO a year, although many of them are University graduates. Hundreds of other specially-trained men occupying high positions also fail to command this remuneration.
