NEW YEAR’S EVE ARRANGEMENTS.

New Year’s Eve (to-morrow evening) will see the curtain rung down on the Alardi Gras festivities. Numerous novelty events have been arranged, which should interest and amuse the huge crowd which the Napier Thirty Thousand Club hope to see present. In response to several requests, a knock-out tug-of-war contest will he held, each team to meet every other team once only. Classes have been arranged for boys 15 years and under, youths 18 years and under, and youths over 18 and under 21 years. Six men to form a team.

In addition to this a solo tug-of-war will be presented one man only. Post entries will be taken for the solo event, hut entries for the six men aside must be made to the secretary before 5 p.m. on Thursday. There will he no. entrv fee for any event, but competitors must pay to enter the Marine Parade enclosure.

Last year a bathing beauty rentes 4 was advertised For the day time, but it is intended to have this year’s even* at 10 p.m. Tho event is limited to ladies, who must bo clad in bathing costume. Cloaks or coats to be worn until judging takes place. Prizes will also he given for tbp handsomest lady and the ugliest man. Bovs will be catered for with a bun fight, and a balloon burstimr compeltion. Competitors wil] all start from scratch, and the boy who first burst* his balloon hy inflating it. with hi.« breath will bo declared the winne*The girls’ balloon contest will he fo* the one who ran blow the balloon up to the greatest size without bursting it.

A novel candle-lighting contest will also bo held. A dozen candles will bn fixed on a stand, and competitors will he allowed one match. The winner will be the one who lights tho most candles.

In addition to tho above there will be band concerts, elite entertainers, fireworks display, merry-go-round and side-shows of all kinds.

A reminder is given that entries for the Paradegram close on December 31. Everybody is invited to turn out in fancy dross on Now Year’s Eve. as a special adults’ fancy costume competition will be held, prizes boin<r awarded for all classes.

Festivities will bo oontipue-l until midnight, when th c band will play “Auld Lan<r Syne,” and bring the session to a close.
